BMW has unveiled the 2020 F 750 GS, F 850 GS, and F 850 GSA overseas. The updated adventure motorcycles feature a new headlamp and new colors. They even get a new 40 Years GS Edition livery. Other than cosmetic and feature updates, the motorcycles receive no powertrain or suspension updates. Feature updates include a USB charging port close to the handlebars and instrument console. Rider aids like ABS Pro and DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) are now also standard across the range. The F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure get an adjustable windscreen and a color TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity even on the standard variants.
Powering the F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure is the same 853cc parallel-twin engine that generates 95PS at 8,250rpm and peak torque of 92Nm at 6,250rpm. Both get a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. Apart from the two Rain and Road modes, you get ASC (Automatic Stability Control) and ABS is standard. You can also opt for modes like Dynamic, Enduro, and Enduro Pro. Optional extras include DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and banking-capable ABS Pro. Additional accessories come in the form of Dynamic ESA, keyless ignition, and Gear Shift Indicator Pro.
Like the BMW F 750 GS, the bikes sit on a new monocoque frame. The suspension setup includes 43mm upside-down forks and a mono-shock. The F 850 GS Adventure gets a longer travel suspension than the 850 GS. Both motorcycles get spoked wheels that can be fitted with tubeless tires.
The 2020 BMW F 850 GS and F 850 GSA will not launch in India anytime soon as it continues to use a Euro 4 / BS5 motor. We expect the bikes to be launched with a Euro 5 / BS6 motor overseas and then be launched in India sometime next year. When launched, the BMW F 850 GS competes against the Tiger 900 Rally while the more hardcore F 850 GS Adventure goes up against the Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
